In mid-April, the Police will take the next step in scaling back their responses to mental health callouts.*
The problem is, the Government hasn't ensured an alternative service is ready to go.
This move risks a dangerous breakdown in care for the tens of thousands of New Zealanders who call 111 each year, and the health workers already struggling under the weight of demand.
*The Police will still attend mental health callouts where there is an immediate risk to safety or life.
Help ensure New Zealanders experiencing a mental health crisis have someone on hand to help.
